We’ll build tone from the air up: low abdominal support, open throat, and relaxed facial muscles. Expect simple headjoint studies, long tones with dynamic “swells,” and resonance games that stabilize pitch without strain. You’ll learn to shape the aperture and adjust air angle so tones speak easily from low C to high C: clear, centered, and in tune.

Tonguing doesn’t have to sound harsh. We’ll find a light, consistent contact point for clean single tonguing and then add double and triple tonguing for faster passages. Slur patterns connect everything: two-note, four-note, scale and arpeggio slurs that make phrases flow. We’ll also cover vibrato development, rate and width, so lyrical lines feel warm, not wobbly.

Even fingers make fast music feel easy. You’ll practice balanced hand shape, pinky coordination, and economical motion through practical scales (major/minor/modal), arpeggios, and chromatic patterns. We’ll use octave and harmonic exercises to stabilize register shifts (via air speed/angle and alternate fingerings) and tune tendencies across the instrument so ensembles feel locked in.

Music drives the learning: classical favorites, themes from film/games, and polished pop arrangements. We’ll coach stage entrances, counting rests, cueing, and balance with piano or backing tracks. You’ll also learn day-to-day care: safe swabbing, headjoint cork awareness, pad protection, and transport tips, so your flute responds the same way every time you play.
